Society today is created by default, by Filipinos who have yet to recognize their creative role in it. Most of us live on remote control, allowing circumstances to dictate our lives, feeling helpless as individuals in our communities, letting hardship after hardship, often devastating injustice, prosper and perpetuate because we believe that these things are beyond our control. We feel completely powerless and detached from society: it is not part of us and we have nothing to do with the way it is moved or shaped.
Today the talents of the Filipino and the gifts of the country are rendered impotent. Life in the Philippines has been reduced to a question of survival.
Many of us blame politics and corruption, lament the story state of the economy, the influence of the church, moral decay and the rapid degeneration of our social institutions -- we look outward for the answers, completely unaware of our ability as individuals, today, to create change. But we can. We can walk the talk... but first, let’s talk.
